As a child my Granddad Green explained to me that he was descended from the original American revolutionaries, and a member of The Sons of American Revolution. Grandma was also descended from them, and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. After my mother Ruth died, I got to chit-chatting with church members who were in the S.A.R. that dug up my Grandfather's original application to that organization, so that I located my great-great-great grandfather James Green's grave in Illinois. I theorized that perhaps my descent from the immigration-thinned remnants of the American War for Independence had something to do with my haunting by the ghosts of American presidents such as George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, the figureheads of the dollar and the penny, the fundamental units of American currency.
